When will the service no longer be operable for users?

Partial service outages do not count.

Full unexpected outages do not count unless it is expected by multiple credible sources that the service will not be fixed.

An intentional shut down definitely counts.

Constitution is not identity, as in any modifications to the service such as features or name changes (X) does not count as Twitter shutting down. However if a new service is launched to replace the existing service it will be considered a shut down if there is continuity only in name, user base, or user data.

Question closes 2023-12-01 to encourage bets with strong predictive power, although I will try to promptly close sooner if there is an obvious permanent shut down before then.

@zaperrer Is this supposed to be closed already? It seems like it should remain open until we know the answer.

@EvanDaniel My intent with this market was to encourage bets with strong predictive power, or to measure a snapshot of people’s expectations in 2023.

I now realize that manifold doesn’t seem designed for these kind of “close early” markets, and accounts for many factors like betting odds changing over time, although it’s still difficult to precisely view snapshots of the market over time.

If it’s allowed I’ll keep this market closed and open others for ongoing trading.

I’m open to arguments for reopening such as suggestions on how to view precise historical snapshots of the market.

@zaperrer 2027 ongoing market here:

@zaperrer You can absolutely close early! It's not really what Manifold is set up for or does best, IMO, but that's my opinion and you are welcome to experiment however (well, almost) you like!

In my experience that's usually not what creators are trying to do and this is more often a mistake, which is why I asked, but with the clarification on record it's very much fine to leave it that way. (With no clarification, if the creator is inactive / non-responsive, mods will often re-open for trading if that looks like the right thing to do to them.)

For displaying info, this is a very neat tool and will pull the full historical data at high resolution, let you zoom in, annotate things, select a date range (but not type it, you have to click and select). Is that doing about what you were hoping for?

@EvanDaniel Thanks! That’s a helpful tool. It doesn’t seem to work well with multiple choice markets though.

@zaperrer Might be worth asking about! There's been some discussion about it in the discord.
