Will both take office?

Or only one? Or neither?

This market resolves based on who actually assumes office as the initial leadership of the 120th U.S. Congress, beginning January 2027.

Jeffries qualifies if Hakeem Jeffries is the first person formally elected, sworn in, and seated as Speaker of the House in the 120th Congress.

Schumer qualifies if Chuck Schumer is the first person to officially assume and serve as Senate Majority Leader in the 120th Congress.

Only one answer will resolve YES.

Nominations, party leadership selections, announcements, and temporary or acting service alone do not count.

Simultaneous service is not required. Once either person qualifies, subsequent resignations, removals, or replacements do not affect the result. If someone else assumes either office first, a later replacement by Jeffries or Schumer does not qualify.

If either initial leadership process is delayed or contested, resolution will wait until both outcomes are officially established.

Resolution will be based on official House and Senate records, supplemented by AP or Reuters reporting if necessary.
