This market resolves to "Yes" if the Second Coming of Jesus Christ occurs by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, it resolves to "No." Resolution will be determined by consensus of credible sources documenting the event.

Background

The Second Coming is a Christian and Islamic concept regarding the return of Jesus to Earth after his first coming and his ascension to heaven about two thousand years ago, based on messianic prophecies found in the canonical gospels and part of most Christian eschatologies. Views about the nature of Jesus' Second Coming vary among Christian denominations and among individual Christians.

Some Christian groups have specifically linked 2027 to end-times prophecies. Some believe the end of the present age will come exactly 2,000 years after the death of Christ on the Cross, which would mean the end of this present age will be in the year 2027. However, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its leaders do not make predictions of the actual date of the Second Coming. Most postmillennialists and amillennialists contend that one should not attempt to predict when the end should come.
