The Eglinton Crosstown LRT, is a public transit line in Toronto that was set to open in 2020. Marred by delays and deficiencies in construction, the opening date for this line has been pushed back year after year, to the point where it currently has no planned opening date.
The Finch West LRT is a public transit line in Toronto that was also set to open in 2020. More delays have pushed its opening date back as well. This project does not have an opening date either, though recent articles is optimistic of a late 2024 opening.
Torontonians know how much of a mess these transit projects have been, especially the Eglinton crosstown. Which one will open first, Finch West (bet YES), or Eglinton (bet NO)?
Eglinton Crosstown will be starting their 30 day revenue service test sometime this week.
The article isn’t so optimistic about the potential results of the test:
“Confidential documents seen by the Star in June showed that the Eglinton LRT may make its long-awaited public debut with a ‘soft-opening,’ with the TTC and Metrolinx exploring the possibility of opening it to the public ‘in phases’ “
“Even after the successful completion of the revenue test, the TTC’s testing of the system could last up to 90 days, according to the documents viewed by the Star.”
Revenue service demonstration is beginning on September 20th. After this 30 day period, assuming no other issues are found, service could begin in October.
