I will spend about 5 hours reviewing articles related to the Paleo diet and resolve this market after my review with a probability reflecting my confidence in a YES answer to this question.
I will tip comments that point to good arguments that help resolve this question one way or another, particularly those that point to good references. I will likely not tip recommendations based on personal experience (I/my uncle/etc did it and it worked).
"effective recommendation": does it work and how easy is it to maintain.
"long-term": two or more years following the diet.
In case it helps for trust on resolution: I am a regular and (I believe) well trusted user of manifold.markets but I created this user as an experiment and to be able to remain anonymous. My regular username will also not bid in this market.

@rev I think from what I've read diets are never effective long term bc people can't stick to them ☹
@rev Unforunately SMTM doesn't site their source when they say (at the very bottom of the page):
"Some people do lose weight on diets. Some of them even lose a lot of weight. But the best research finds that diets just don’t work very well in general...
... And even if someone does lose 20 lbs, in general they will gain most of it back within a year."
