The EPP announced May 2023 that they will nominate a spitzenkandidat (lead candidate) for the 2024 European Parliament election. Who will it be?
At the last election in 2019, Manfred Weber, the president of the EPP, was nominated. However, it is not the parliament but the council proposes the actual candidate and they surprisingly proposed Ursula von der Leyen instead. The parliament approved, so she became President of the Commission.
