Substack claims to be an interesting new medium for internet writing. Despite basically being the same as medium.com. Over the past couple of years they've gradually made their UX worse presumably because of pressure from investors.
I am personally finding Substack less and less usable, to the extent that I now actively avoid their website, and use reader view when I do go on it.
By 2026 will the consensus view of Substack have shifted to be similar to how people generally view medium.com (a living dead website)?
I will resolve based on my impressions of what people think, so factor that in to your voting. Currently I think that most people think Substack is totally fine, and that almost no one thinks of it as being similar to medium.com
Update 2025-13-01 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Living dead website refers to platforms such as:
MySpace
SoundCloud
medium.com
These websites:
Still exist and are usable but are past their peak of relevance
Are beholden to investors
Are gradually degrading their user experience in an attempt to turn a profit
@TheAllMemeingEye websites like MySpace, SoundCloud, medium, etc. Still exist and are usable but past their peak of relevance. They are beholden to investors and gradually degrading their user experience in an attempt to find some way to turn a profit.
