No new information yet, and given that John has indicated this will be evaluated in the more academic/formal sense of leftist I'm not sure vague references in the manifesto is sufficient, so seems like this market should be much lower.

The manifesto is not political.

@MaybeNotDepends The shooter was clearly mad and not motivated by politics.

bought Ṁ300 of YES

Based on the leaked Manifesto, i'm pretty sure this should resolve YES. I think only a leftist would use words like "while privilege" and "cr*ckers"

@Shump Would a leftist say "F**k you fa***ts"? I doubt it. I spend a lot of time around leftists, and that's not really leftist-speak.

Now, if she said she was doing this so the workers would control the means of production, I'd agree with you.

predicted YES

@TiredCliche tbh, what I gain from this Manifesto is that he was not doing it for politically-motivated reasons, despite the loaded words. It seems to me like he just hated the kids for some reason, and is fetishizing murder.

predicted NO

@Shump I agree. Just seemed like wild paranoia and schizophrenia to me.

Leftist is undefined. It used to mean socialist. Now it just means someone who is arguably right of center (a mainstream US democrat) by global standards.

@AaronKreider Leftist refers to someone who is anti-capitalist, generally far left. A socialist or communist would be a leftist. If it's reported that Audrey is a liberal or just a mainstream democrat, then by definition they're not a leftist.

predicted YES

@johnleoks That isn't the interpretation I took from your title.

@EvanTh What's your interpretation? As far as I'm concerned, there's only one interpretation.

@johnleoks The definition has become politicized and it's a product of increased partisanship in the US. Republicans are more likely to identify all or almost all Democrats as leftists. For instance, a common conservative take is to "oppose Biden and the Radical Left Agenda".

Things went downhill (in terms of words having meanings) too under Obama, where many Republicans called him a "socialist".

Historically being a leftist meant socialist/anarchist/anti-capitalist. But currently it is hard to say.

A similar trend has happened with "progressive". It was previously used by leftists who didn't want to identify as socialists due to socialism having a bad name (due to the USSR and others) (ex. in college I formed a group called the Progressive Student Alliance - a commonly used name in the 1990-2005 period). But now progressive is the weakest of terms that means slightly liberal.

predicted YES

@johnleoks In my mind, "leftist" is anyone to the left of the center of the political spectrum in the country under consideration (here, the US); and "rightist" is anyone to the right of that center. So, most Republicans would be rightists, and most Democrats would be leftists.

@EvanTh Yea if I wanted to use the word liberal or left wing I would have. I specifically used leftist because leftist is defined as far left, socialist or communist. I do not care how your average person misuses the word leftist just like how I do not take Marjorie Taylor Greene seriously when she calls Biden who is a liberal, a communist.
