In 1 week, I will post a poll here that asks whether you like Permanent Stocks. This market resolves to the percentage of people who vote YES on the poll.

Inspired by https://manifold.markets/IsaacKing/stock-stock-permanent

The goal is for you to use it to express your own opinions and/or turn a profit by predicting other people's opinions. Bet YES if you're in favor of the subject of the market or believe other people will come to have a more favorable opinion of it in the future, bet NO if you view the subject of the market unfavorably or believe others will come to view it as such.

I intended this to compare against the functionally equivalent market https://manifold.markets/jack/permanent-stock-stock-1-week to see whether naming it a "stock" vs a "poll" made any difference. Interestingly, the "poll" got a lot more interest than the "stock".

Here's the poll - vote by liking one of these comments:

Vote YES by liking this comment

Vote NO by liking this comment

Poll will close Feb 20

Poll results are 7 YES, 3 NO. Resolves 70%.

We need a permanent stock of permanent stocks.

Oh that's Isaac's market. I am blind.

@XComhghall Lol, the whole point I was trying to make in this market was that markets that actually resolve are better than permanent stocks.

Obviously a lot of people do like them because there are loads of the things and they get a lot of participants. But I expect that there's a silent majority who find them annoying when they clutter up our feed. And as BTE says, they don't even function properly as stocks.

(I'm assuming the poll is about permanent stocks as they currently exist rather than some hypothetical improved version.)

@Fion Yes, this is about current permanent stocks.

And I agree, that's why I'm making this market.

If they were price based instead of probability.

Like why couldn't we have IPO's with a similar buying among insiders to find price before float?

@BTE This market itself is a type of stock that actually uses the prediction market mechanism in a sensible way!
