Currently your placement in leagues is based on "mana earned" which includes trading profits, but also bonuses you get from various other activities. Will they stop this and make it based ONLY on trading-profit?

Resolves to yes if this happens by the END OF the NEXT season. Resolves NO if it doesnt.

Also resolves YES if they do this for upper divisions like plat-diamond, but continue counting bonuses for lower ranks only.

@hmys it is now the 'END OF the NEXT season', bonuses were still included in 'total mana earned', this should resolve NO

I think this would be a bigger deal if the bonuses we could get were more different from one player to the next or if they were tough to get.

Instead, everyone with a real chance of promotion will be getting a 50 Mana bonus every day making it a level playing field!

(The exception is bonuses for people betting on your markets… But that’s meant to be encouraged!)

@SimonGrayson I disagree on this point. It would take too long for a talented outsider to accumulate the max streak. Leagues should be a level playing field in that both new users and established users can promote

@BrendanFinan You know it only takes five days to hit the max streak, right? I don't really see how that can be considered "far too long"!

Since each league lasts a month, a new user is much more likely to be at a disadvantage because they happened to join half way through a month while their opponents have the whole month to play than because of the max streak.

And that's ignoring the fact that it might take them more than five days to get to grips with the site!

@SimonGrayson oh, really? My bad. I though max streak bonus was at 50 days. I have some of Manifold's gamification features adblocked so I haven't checked it in a while

Tangential thought - would also love for self-resolving markets to not be included

predicted NO

My thoughts are that at the lower leagues, yes being more engaged and clicking more buttons will help you climb faster. Here, it's a tradeoff that clicking on an Add immediately gives you 5 mana progress in your league. Betting has a much longer term reward, it's not fast and snappy, which is worse as a new user experience. It's less accurate, yes, but it is also more engaging for new users.
At higher leagues, the mana earned from adds does not matter. My league has a $250M difference between place 5 (promotion) and 6 (stay). That's after 3 days, extrapolating another 26, the difference should be ~2100$M. That's not going to be determined by who clicks the most adds, but by who makes the best predictions.

Currently, leagues (at the very least lower ones) are basically ad-clicking game. Im not sure if it's intentional, or anyway beneficial for engagement overall.

But either way, I believe ad income is overly huge, cutting it will be a good move. It will reduce the role of it in leagues too. To me, it seems like 2-3 mana per ad would overall work better.

@Berg I also feel a lower mana per ad would work better. I might also might want to incentivize actually betting in the market

My general thought here is:

Leagues are intended to further gamify the site and incentivize what the admins consider good for the site. All the things that you get bonuses for are things they consider good for the site.

It would take a lot of pushback for them to only incentivise trading profit, when they are balancing many competing goals.
