Will a new self-supported, northbound fastest known time (FKT) be set for the Appalachian Trail in 2026?
The current record was set in 2025 by Jeff Garmire, who completed the trail traveling southbound in 45 days, 8 hours, 37 minutes.
Will 'Sisyphus' Peterson announced on March 23rd that he'll be attempting to set a new record this year. Will holds numerous other FKTs and is a serious contender for the record. https://fastestknowntime.com/athlete/will-sisyphus-peterson
Update 2026-03-26 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The resolution criteria has been broadened to include a new FKT set in either direction (northbound or southbound), not just northbound.

@marvingardens that’s where the existing overall FKT was set. It’s also the direction most AT hikers travel.
@snazzlePop Just following your links, the "45 days, 8 hours, 37 minutes" record appears to belong to the southbound Jeff Garmire, while the northbound Joe 'Stringbean' McConaughy was four hours slower. I don't know anything about this, I'm just reading your links.
@marvingardens You’re right! Since the only @traders on this market have both only bet ‘Yes’, I’m going to broaden the resolution criteria to include either direction, which also more closely matches the title.
Thank you for catching this!
