I have been paying for the $20 openAI subscription for a while now and use o3 and Deep Research fairly regularly (1-4 times a week). However, the vast majority of my use of AI models is through GitHub copilot (which I get for free) with extensions in my editors (neovim, VScode) and there I have found myself most often happiest with output from the Claude and Gemini families of models.
As I have moved away from ChatGPT for basic coding tasks and find AI image generation distasteful and tacky, the only real selling point for the subscription is the reasoning and research features. Will that be enough to keep me paying when I seem to be using other company’s models the majority of the time? Is there a reason to pay for any LLM access currently when I have free copilot and access to the free tier for Claude, Gemini, etc. ? Is another company’s subscription a better option now/will it be a better option by the end of August?
I am open to persuasion and would be willing to pay for at least two subscriptions simultaneously for a month for testing purposes if it is useful.
Resolves NO as soon as I hit cancel on the account page, even if I later reactivate it. Resolves YES if nothing changes and I maintain the same status quo.
