Right now, MTG (or Magic The Gathering) is not quite mainstream, but at least a very successful sub-culture. With some proeminent celebrities promoting/being a part of it (actually just Post Malone ...). And a topic often discussed about it are the prices of individual cares, and how some (parts of the reserved list) seems to always go up. And people often joke about the fact that the best time to buy them was yesterday. Or the prices of some very rare and collectible items, reaching all time high, and becoming collectible. And while a naive approach could be that they will always go up, some elements seel to go against that fact:

-The player base seems to not have as many new faces

-People spending money on Magic seems to be people who were children or teens when they first started playing and now capitalise on their income to spend on this hobby.

So my question, when I talk about "relevance", I will take the fact that prices of individual sought after cards plummit. (I will consider the "bilands" are they are some of the most iconic and looked for, for people that play the game and not just invest.)

So I will consider the market solved, when the prices of all 10 bilands combined go under 1.000$ without the shipping closts. Right now the first price is for 4.420$.

I think a set of all 10 dual lands will never again go below that amount barring some big reprinting or something (and probably even then because the originals are collectable).

@AlexRockwell Do you think it's even the case for the "Revised" ones ? They're the ones people buy when they only want playability and nothing else. Contrary to Unlimied they don't have a cool textbox, nor do they have black borders compared to foreign ones.

@XavierBaton No they are also collector items. I personally wish I had bought a set of 40 revised duals before they got a lot more expensive in the pandemic

@AlexRockwell I see. And don't you think that asking for "the first price" of a lot. Helps against that ? Because the condition of the cards would be way poorer. So not really something a collector would look after (I think)

The prices of Revised dual lands are not necessarily a good proxy for Magic's popularity. They could decline if counterfeiting becomes rampant or the reserved list is removed, and Magic as a game could still be as popular as ever. I'd suggest you edit the title to reflect what's actually being asked.

@IsaacKing So maybe something about the "collectibles" aspect of Magic ? Or it's fonction as a speculative asset ?
