Christophe Gleizes, a French sports journalist (So Foot, Society), was arrested in Algeria in May 2024 and sentenced to 7 years in prison for "apology of terrorism" after reporting on the JSK football club. His appeal was confirmed in December 2025, and on May 25, 2026, Algeria's Supreme Court rejected the prosecutor's appeal, making the conviction final — a legal precondition his lawyers say is required for a presidential pardon. Diplomatic relations between France and Algeria have been thawing since May 2026 (return of the French ambassador, ministerial visits), but no pardon has been announced as of August 2026.
Resolves YES if: Algeria issues a pardon, amnesty, or otherwise releases Gleizes from detention (including transfer/expulsion to France or a third country) before December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM.
Resolves NO if: he remains in Algerian custody past that date.
