Currently, all visitors to the Walt Disney World theme parks are required to make a reservation to enter the theme parks. This is an unpopular policy originally implemented by Disney during summer 2020 operations as a reaction to covid-19, which allowed them to manage crowd levels. Now, these reservations are no longer managing crowd levels, but are used by Disney to make staffing decisions.
However, none of Disney's major competitors have a reservation system like this, and there is a perception that the reservation system is encouraging potential customers to visit competitors.
Disney has recently eliminated a need for single day ticket holders to get park pass reservations in some contexts, but as of December 2022, they are still required for all other park entry products.
