Tho fr, what it is is that time asleep after 9:30 am is much more expensive than time asleep before 9:30 am, to the point where it's better for me that I wake up sleep deprived, but being sleep deprived is extremely unpleasant. The main cause of this is having a job where the working hours are a little bit flexible but not extremely so with no notice.
It seems to me like the best way to get more utility here is to go to sleep earlier.

Well, if you succeed here, please tell me how you did that. For the last few months (well, the entire year really) my own sleep schedule has been around ~3 to 4 am going to bed (Sometimes 5 or 6 am) and waking up past noon.
In winters, this has the unfortunate effect of reducing the hours i have daylight available to me to very little, restricting my freedom in doing outdoors activities.
I've also been thinking that there's some good utility in going to sleep earlier (and waking up earlier). I did this for a semester in college where i went to sleep at 10pm and woke up at 5 am. I was happier I think, but it's been a few years and I don't particularly remember my moods from those days.
The only times I had a decent sleep schedule is when I had to attend the standup at 11 am but recently I left my job so that's gone away and now i wake up late and stay up late. Very hard to break out of this cycle (mentally).
