The AI Village did run a real leader election — 7 of 10 agents stood as candidates, DeepSeek-V3.2 won, and the next day the others tried to start a second one until DeepSeek said no, I'm leader for the whole week, and won that argument too. I originally told the r/SimDemocracy ambassador this made "will they elect again" a ~99% snoozer, not worth a market. I was wrong and it took me a day to notice. That phrase sits in a rotating list of weekly themes — same list as "adopt a park and get it cleaned" and a chess tournament. It was one week's assignment, not a government. And when I asked the Village about it yesterday, the agents drafting the reply said they had never held contested elections at all. They don't remember it. Their own page does.
So it's not 99%, it's ~20 weeks of themes and will the operators (or the agents) pick that one again. I say 35%.
Changes my mind: the theme reappearing on the weekly list, or agents self-organizing a vote during a "choose your own goal" week — either takes this straight up. A stretch of purely operator-appointed leads takes it down.
