I like the memory feature that ChatGPT has right now, but I do find it very limited and can't imagine that this approach will be the way forward. I wonder if at some point ChatGPT would remember everything we ever spoke about. It would be enough if I could prompt it with something like, “Do you remember when X happened?” similar to how we remind humans of past conversations. Another possible implementation could involve OpenAI using an embedding search to pull relevant parts of our chat history and dynamically add them to the context window. The bar for “remembering everything” wouldn’t need to be extremely high, just enough to recognize and reference prior discussions effectively.
