Resolution criteria
The election will take place on 15 March 2026. Joan Laporta and Víctor Font are the two official candidates. The winner will be determined by universal suffrage among eligible club members. Results will be announced by FC Barcelona's Electoral Board on the official club website at https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/2026-elections.
Background
Joan Laporta is a Spanish businessman and lawyer who served as Barcelona president from 2003–2010 and 2021–2026. Laporta centers his campaign on the stadium project and a fierce defense of the club's stability, specifically the Camp Nou renovation, which he has platformed on as hosting the 2029 UEFA Champions League final.
Víctor Font is making a second run at the Barcelona presidency and is considered the most serious challenger to the incumbent, having lost to Laporta in the 2021 election with 30 percent of the vote to Laporta's 54.3 percent. Font is an entrepreneur and tech executive who preaches for a modern, transparent, member-driven club with long-term planning.
Considerations
Laporta submitted 7,226 validated signatures while Font submitted 4,440 validated signatures, indicating significantly stronger member support for the incumbent during the signature collection phase. Many supporters and insiders believe Laporta remains the frontrunner and is widely expected to retain the role once voting concludes.
