This market resolves YES if, before July 1, 2028 at 12:00 a.m. São Paulo time—meaning no later than June 30, 2028 at 11:59 p.m. BRT—at least one company offers an operational, on-demand, fully driverless passenger ride-hailing service within the municipality of São Paulo, Brazil.
For a service to qualify, all of the following must be true:
Available to the general public: Any ordinary eligible member of the public must be able to create an account and request a ride without needing a personal invitation, employment or affiliation with the operator, participation in a closed beta, or case-by-case approval. A normal app signup, identity verification, payment method, age requirement, terms of service, or brief generally applicable waitlist does not disqualify the service, provided access is being routinely granted and is not meaningfully restricted to a selected test group.
On-demand taxi or ride-hailing service: Passengers must be able to request transportation between passenger-selected pickup and drop-off points within a defined service area. Fixed-route shuttles, buses, sightseeing circuits, airport people movers, and vehicles available only for demonstrations or prearranged test events do not qualify.
Fully driverless during passenger service: No human may be seated in the vehicle with responsibility for driving, supervising the driving system, or taking over when necessary. The vehicle must perform the complete passenger-carrying trip without a human driver controlling steering, acceleration, or braking, either inside the vehicle or continuously by remote control.
Remote personnel may provide limited assistance—such as answering passenger questions, confirming an unusual situation, or giving high-level guidance to the automated driving system—provided they are not remotely driving the vehicle in real time.Actual public operation: A company announcement, regulatory authorization, testing activity, mapping activity, app release, signup page, or promise of a future launch is insufficient. At least one qualifying ride must actually have been completed by an ordinary member of the public before the deadline.
São Paulo location: At least part of the qualifying service area must lie within the official boundaries of the municipality of São Paulo—not merely elsewhere in the state or São Paulo metropolitan region—and the service must permit both a pickup and a drop-off within the municipality.
Genuine service rather than a token demonstration: The service must be offered on a recurring basis and allow ordinary point-to-point trips. A one-day promotional event, invitation-only media demonstration, single fixed journey, or other temporary exhibition does not qualify. Limited operating hours, a geographically restricted service area, a small fleet, high prices, or limited vehicle availability are acceptable.
The service may be operated by any company and may use its own app or a third-party platform such as Uber or 99. It does not need to use a purpose-built robotaxi; an ordinary production vehicle qualifies if it is being operated as part of a fully driverless ride-hailing service under the conditions above.
Tesla FSD or another self-driving feature used in privately owned cars does not qualify by itself. It would qualify only if deployed as a fully driverless, publicly accessible taxi or ride-hailing service meeting all of the above requirements.
The market resolves NO if no service meeting all of these conditions begins qualifying public operations before the deadline.
Resolution should be based on the operator’s official documentation together with credible evidence that qualifying public rides actually occurred, preferably from reputable news reporting, government or regulatory records, or independently documented rides. If sources disagree, evidence of actual operating conditions takes precedence over marketing terminology.
The market may resolve YES as soon as the criteria are clearly met. Otherwise, it resolves NO after the deadline once sufficient time has passed to determine whether a qualifying service had begun by June 30, 2028.
