Based on my experience moderating, I think punishment for actions that were far in the past, and especially ones during a period of lighter moderation, is just not worth one's time. It's not bad, if it was zero cost it'd be worth doing, it just doesn't serve much of a function if there's already a precedent set that future conduct will be punished. But there's not much gain relative to spending a few hours sorting through evidence or debating a punishment.

One common refrain you hear about IRL policing is that the consistency and swiftness of prevention or punishment matters much more than the strength of the punishment. This is true online as well, and being punished 3 months later just doesn't have the same oomph that instant prevention or punishment does.

@jacksonpolack Agreed, I should clarify that while a retroactive punishment is reasonable, I don't necessarily feel it is actually important to do so. The only reason would be for the sake of fairness (which is somewhat compelling though).

Ngl I forgot about this, I believe it was the season when I was on holiday and not working for two weeks hence the brief comment with no follow up.

Will see what Trustworthyish users think. I do think a retroactive punishment is reasonable though.
