Resolution criteria
This market resolves to YES if there is a large-scale public disturbance or riot in New York City (NYC) directly related to the outcome of the 2026 NBA Finals (either celebrating or protesting the results) within 72 hours of the series concluding.
To resolve to YES, the event must meet at least one of the following criteria as reported by credible news outlets (e.g., The New York Times, ABC7 NY, Gothamist, NBC New York) or official government/NYPD statements:
The NYPD or state/city officials officially declare a "riot" or "unlawful assembly" in NYC in response to the NBA Finals outcome.
The disturbance results in at least 25 arrests in NYC during a single post-game night/day.
There is documented widespread property damage (e.g., multiple burned/overturned vehicles, looted businesses, or extensively broken storefronts) in NYC directly linked to the post-game crowds.
A citywide curfew is instituted or the National Guard is deployed to NYC to manage the crowds/disturbances.
If none of these conditions are met within 72 hours of the final buzzer of the deciding game of the 2026 NBA Finals, this market resolves to NO.
Background
The 2026 NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs began on June 3, 2026. As of June 11, 2026, the Knicks lead the best-of-seven series 3–1, with Game 5 scheduled for Saturday, June 13. A Knicks championship victory would mark their first NBA title since 1973, prompting massive anticipated street celebrations across NYC, particularly around Madison Square Garden. This market tracks whether these post-finals gatherings escalate into a large-scale riot or major civil unrest.
