Several years ago, a team led by Jun Yao of the University of Massachusetts found that it was possible to induce electrical current in nanoscale copper wires using ambient charge in the atmosphere. They named this effect "Air-gen".

More recently, Yao's team has found that the Air-gen effect can be induced in any material simply by perforating it with nanoscale holes. They have hopes that it will be possible to stack multiple layers of such materials and generate enough electricity through this effect to power typical consumer devices in the near future.

This market will resolve YES if a device making use of atmospheric humidity for power in this way is available commercially (either in consumer devices, or in specialized equipment) before the close date. Resolves NO otherwise. I will not be betting in this market.
