This market will resolve to the candidate who is officially elected as the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg by the newly seated municipal council following the 2026 South African local government elections.
Electoral Process: Under South African municipal law, voters do not directly elect metropolitan mayors. Instead, they vote to elect ward and proportional representation (PR) councillors. Once the 270-member City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Council is seated, the councillors elect the Executive Mayor by majority vote during their inaugural sitting. This market resolves based on the outcome of that council vote.
