This market is entirely subjective. I have developed Roblox games for the past 10 years, so I am familiar with the platform.
Roblox has a reputation for being lesser than games made on other engines, so I think it’s a good comparator for what would classify as a “low level”, but still fully functional and developed game. The game compared to will be the best made Roblox game, in my own opinion, at the time xAI releases a game. The market will not resolve NO until the end of the 5 years, and any games released will qualify for the comparison.
I will compare any future games on the following criteria:
Visual, 3D quality
User interface quality (appearance)
User Experience (how easy it is to understand, learn to play, and to play)
Balancing
Long term retention/ breadth of enjoyable content
Game loop
Game design, how enjoyable it is to play
General, overall quality of game content
Networking / multiplayer aspects
The extent to which it is a “game”. If this is not met it will not qualify. It must be clearly a video game in the common sense - it must have saving, progression, a game loop, 3D Assets or assets that appear 3D (e.g. factorio)
The actual performance of the game in terms of engagement, player count, playtime etc will not be a direct comparator. However, it will likely be used to evidence my views on the above points. For example, long term retention can be evidenced by a lack of any long term players.
I will not bet on this market.
