This market will resolve to "Yes" if, by December 31, 11:59:59 PM CT, Joseph James Rogan (aka "Joe Rogan"), host of the "Joe Rogan Experience" on Spotify, invites a guest onto that podcast who mentions any of these three words -- "Georgism", "Geoism", or "Land Value Tax" -- in a favorable context. #JoeRogan #Georgism #Economics #Podcast

I'm guessing this didn't happen in 2023, but to be perfectly sure I'm going to have to go over the last few months of episodes and double check.

@LarsDoucet Anybody know if there's any site that posts transcripts of all the episodes?

predicted NO

@LarsDoucet iirc there used to be one prior to the Spotify switch but not since then, to my knowledge

@MattCWilson I'll do a quick skim later tonight looking at the most likely candidates who could potentially have mentioned it and then scrub through a couple of episodes. IE, if there's someone on who has a known background in economics or housing policy, I'll check those.

@LarsDoucet Looks like a no.

predicted YES

I appeared on the Realignment today to talk about Georgism:

Not Rogan yet, but there's still time left in the year.

@LarsDoucet Hope I am wrong!

Why is the probability even higher now that half the time has elapsed and the event still hasn't (I assume) happened?

@MichaelWheatley low volume/visibility, I suspect.
predicted YES
To be clear this doesn't require him to invite a guest on with the explicit intent of talking about Georgism; if he merely invites a guest who mentions either of the key words listed above, that counts. For instance, Daryl Fairweather, chief economist of Redfin, is apparently doing a round on podcasts and talk shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgav5DIuauI (She was also on 60 minutes and some other places) She's been posting both YIMBY and Georgist content on twitter: https://twitter.com/FairweatherPhD/status/1526219457097568256 https://twitter.com/FairweatherPhD/status/1526933734997602304 https://twitter.com/FairweatherPhD/status/1526691894310445056 (In the last one she explicitly says, "This is why we need Land Value Taxes") So as an example, if she were to get invited onto JRE, I wouldn't be surprised if she brought up LVT sometime during the hours-long interview, and that would be sufficient to resolve this market as a yes. Which is to say, I'm not sure Georgism/LVT might penetrate far enough into the consciousness for Joe to be like, "Let's have this Georgist on to talk about Georgism," but I could totally seeing someone like Daryl have enough prominence for him to be like, "Yo, rent in Austin is getting totally out of whack, Daryl did great talking about that on the Breakfast club, let's have her on the show to talk about real estate" and then it comes up organically, even if it's brief.
I love Georgism but I doubt it. This doubles as something of a hedge, because I will be happy if it does happen, enough to easily offset this loss. (As I see pro-Georgist meme spread as a good thing.)
r/BasicIncome has 80k members r/georgism has 7k members. As much as I like goergism, I don't think it has the prominence required to get on JRE.
