Resolves YES if Wayne Brown (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Brown_(New_Zealand_politician))
Announces his candidacy for the next Auckland mayoralty race (immediately after his current term)
Wins by public vote in the election
Otherwise resolves NO
Provisional resolution date for end of Oct 2025 but will update for election results date.
@JulianLees he didn't need the media's support to get in, he doesn't need it to stay there!
I'd anticipate three possible challenges to his candidacy in 2025:
- get to 2025 with no major scandals
- facing a VERY strong challenger, e.g., Phil Goff or an ex-PM. Auckland has many great councillors but I don't see any of them taking him on.
- health scare leads to his declining to run
Otherwise he seems like he is in a very good position. Auckland mayoral races have not been really competitive since the super city began in 2011 and no incumbent has been voted out.
@B is there a scenario where he decides he doesn't want it again?
I see his far north tenure was 2 terms but Wikipedia also notes:
"""
Brown, at 64, delayed announcing his candidacy "just in case someone younger and brighter came forward" to continue his work, but when this did not happen, he put his nomination forward in August
