Background
Gannon Ken Van Dyke, a U.S. Army Master Sergeant, was indicted in April 2026 on federal charges including commodities fraud, wire fraud, and the unlawful use of classified government information. Prosecutors allege that Van Dyke, who was involved in the planning and execution of the U.S. military operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro ("Operation Absolute Resolve"), used sensitive, non-public information to place over $33,000 in bets on the prediction platform Polymarket. These wagers reportedly resulted in approximately $400,000 in profits before the mission became public.
