Will AI tutoring be widely regarded in the US as equivalent to traditional classroom-based instruction by 2040?

My son will be 18 in 2040, when private colleges are projected to be $110k+/year. Currently 36% of US adults have a 4 year degree, but that trendline seems to be waning. I can see traditional degrees becoming even more about prestigious names on a resume, but could AI institutions emerge as equally respected alternatives?

I think this will eventually become the mainstream and replace live teachers.

Deleted creator account, criteria seem relatively murky. It seems like an interesting question, but hard to resolve with these criteria. Resolving N/A.

If people are interested, I'd encourage someone to set up a version with clearer criteria that a hypothetical mod team in 2040 could resolve.

@IanDuffy Was this supposed to be closed already? It seems like it should stay open until we know the answer.

Regarded by who? The general public? Teachers? Students? Employers? You?

Is the specifically about college? Or k-12 education as well?

@robm I'm thinking more about colleges and the difference they make in earnings over a career. I'm sure AI education will exist for both k-12 and higher ed, but I wonder if some could become highly selective to be seen as prestigious and whether companies would consider them as more reputable for having been trained with specific curricula.
