11/24/2023 update:

My book is complete. But I've decided to waive the early-completion condition and write 10,000 words worth of other narratives.

BUT NOTE THAT THERE IS AN EARLY-COMPLETION CONDITION (see below)

I'm currently writing a science fantasy novel. Over the month of November, my goal is to either:

  • Finish the first draft of the story completely.

    • I estimate this will take an additional ~40,000 words. I am currently writing chapter 37 out of a planned 60. I am in the middle of act 3, out of 4 planned acts.

  • Write at minimum of 50,000 words of new narrative.

    • The following DO NOT COUNT as new narrative:

      • Worldbuilding notes

      • Editing notes

      • Inline notes

      • Chapter titles

      • Reinsertion of cut scenes

      • Addition of pre-written, planned scenes

Historical Notes:

  • Chapter 1 was written as a oneshot in March 2020, revised in December 2020, and revised again December 2021.

  • Chapter 2 was written in October 2022. This is when the story "began"

  • Chapters 1-3 (currently 3342 words) were complete by the start of NaNoWriMo 2022

  • I did NaNoWriMo 2022 as my first NaNoWriMo. I set the goal of writing 25,000 words for this story, and wrote 27,018. I wrote for 27 out of 30 days.

  • Since NaNoWriMo2022, I have added ~47,000 words to my first draft.

As of this question being posed, (10/29/2023) I have:

  • ~62,000 words (chapters 1-30) written for part 1 of the story (complete), Including ~600 words of chapter titles and ~100 words of inline notes

  • ~17,00 words (chapters 31-36) written for part 2 of the story, including ~100 words of chapter titles.

  • 752 words written for chapter 37, which is in progress.

  • ~6400 words in documents used to store cut or future scenes. This includes 934 words of the planned final chapter.

  • ~9300 words across a variety of ancillary documents. (Including editing notes, plans for the rest of the story, worldbuilding notes, etc.)

No additional narrative was written 10/30 or 10/31.

Information I will provide:

  • Wordcount tracking by day in NaNoWriMo

  • A notification in this question whenever I finish a chapter.

  • A notification in this question when I hit what I consider to be the end of part three/beginning of part 4.

Biographical Information:

  • I work full time from M-F.

  • I have two writer's groups, each of which meet weekly, but will only be attending one of them over the month of november. So far, on days I attend writer's groups, I spend 2-3 hours to write between 500-1000 words.

  • I will be travelling ~4 hours to visit family, and another ~4 hours back, on different days.

  • I have thanksgiving off, but do not plan to take any vacation days or sick days off.

I will pay attention to the comments and try to respond for reasonable requests for information.

I pledge to only vote YES for this question, and to not sell any of my stocks prior to resolution.
