The site Goodreads is for logging books read, reviewing them, etc -- a bit like what Letterboxd is for movies. Each year you can set a yearly goal for how many books you want to read.

I have not reached my yearly goal for any year since 2018. I have set my goal for 2026 to 28 books. Will I manage this?

Considerations:

  • I do count audiobooks, but I expect the total share of these to be very low because I mostly just fall asleep to the same 15 minutes over and over each night.

  • I do count required literature for courses if I have read the vast majority of the volume. I am not a full time student but expect to read a couple books to fill in years old gaps in my studies.

  • Otherwise, books that I only read partway through are not counted.

  • I will have a very busy year, but am also committed to reading more again.

  • The goal is set higher than what I've read the past few years, but I think I can manage it. That said, I also thought that about all my failed years between 2018 and now.

  • I have not finished any books this year so far. The website tells me this means I am currently behind schedule.

  • I will not be betting on this market.
