Lost 35k mana, but got motivated to start reading a lot again after ~6 months of hardly any reading from late 2022-early 2023. Absolutely worth it.
@firstuserhere that's awesome dude! Throughout the year when comments from this would pop up, it also helped me keep up my reading if I happened to be slacking!
I won 84 mana (which is not helping my plan of training the bots to bet against me on personal goals) but this market also inspired me to read again. When you said you were reading Kafka on the Shore it motivated me to pick it back up and I quite enjoyed it. I read 3 books this month, which is an infinity percent increase compared to possible multiple years.
Will @firstuserhere read 50+ books in 2024? - Market for the next year - I will not be participating in the market as a trader.
how current is the list now?
also, with the added context I can say for sure Libby is in your country, if you're still looking for an approachable way to get audiobooks. they're a great option for, say, a nice long walk?
although if 40 is still the number it's pretty ambitious to hit 50 by EOY
@shankypanky The list was more or less current. I flipped the toggle for the 2 books I did finish that weren't being counted before (i.e. contribution factor 0 -> non-zero). That adds up to 41.36 books, likely going to end the year with 44 max.
This market will resolve to NO. I can do an early resolve if people want to get their mana out.
@firstuserhere I don't mind either way. On principle I prefer time-based markets not resolving early but it's not a strong preference if you're confident in the result.
@firstuserhere Murakami is great. I highly recommend 1Q84 (although it's pretty long so not the best for maxing your chances in this market).
@Strigoides One of the biggesst reasons this challenge didn't happen is - I basically read no books for the first 4-5 months of the year!
Considering that, 45+ books in 7-8 months comes to (5.65 to 6.42) books a month, which honestly is not that bad.
oh nice
men without women is a collection of short stories you might like
a wild sheep chase and dance dance dance have basically all of the classic elements of his writing imo
check out 1Q84 (but not this year pls, it's long)
@firstuserhere It's been a great effort! I've only read 25 and I've been going at a pretty steady pace for the whole year.
What's the go to place to download audiobooks for free? Audible kinda sucks with 1 credit a month and how little royalty they pay to the authors. I've been downloading from anyaudiobook dot com and using a music player in my phone to listen. (Yes yes piracy etc, we can discuss that elsewhere)
@firstuserhere If you’ve got a library card you can use apps like Libby on iOS to try audiobooks that your library makes available. And it’s not even piracy!
@firstuserhere It works for me in the UK, I think it’s a library-specific thing rather than a regional thing?
