NO

It's near the bookstore on south b street. Looking at this street with the eyes of a visitor, the infra really seems to be falling apart here.

I counted 8 trashy aspects:

  • red paint

  • white arrow spraypaint

  • blue paint on ground left side

  • rough cut jagged line from concrete around manhole down left

  • manhole has concrete on its cover

  • big crack emanating up-right from manhole

  • faded cracked paint on pedestrian white lines

  • warning post permanently just sitting in the middle of the road

If at least 4 of those issues are fixed without being replaced by other trashy elements, then YES

Pertains to the area of the photo in the near corner around that manhole.

In comparison, here is a totally random street corner in Osaka.

Random Tokyo street corner. Selected randomly, turns out to have been taken Aug 2022

  • all metal bits in road are flush, no asphalt on surface

  • Pedestrian lines are fading but straight

  • Road is slightly lumpy but not nearly as bad as San Mateo

  • there are asphalt cuts but they are all straight

  • no cracks in asphalt at all

  • no paint on road at all

As of Sep 23 2024:

  • red paint => still present

  • white arrow spraypaint => faded

  • blue paint on ground left side => faded

  • rough cut jagged line from concrete around manhole down left => still present

  • manhole has concrete on its cover => still present

  • big crack emanating up-right from manhole => not as bad, but the street is not fixed

  • faded cracked paint on pedestrian white lines => they appear to have been partially repainted but are still mega cracked.

  • warning post permanently just sitting in the middle of the road => not present

New trashy elements:

  • The crack on the lower horizontal white line is growing.

  • The staining around the manhole is getting worse, and the size of the gap around its edge is deepening

Resolution: not fixed
