Facebook will ship a clearly traditional Avatar system on PC by mid 2026, no more forced ambiguous self-presentatation

Most of these things will apply by due date:

  • You'll be able to get yourself into a "I am male/female" state where you don't constantly get presented with cross-gender clothes, body parts, makeup etc. That is, I'll be able to pick or modify a setting so that I'm not presented with the option to add makeup to my male character with a beard, and when I click "shirts" i don't get bras, pasties, blouses, bikini tops mixed in with my male shirts.

  • Subtle colors of the trans flag will not be the background to random parts of the UI for no apparent reason. see image, this is a default look on PC, as masculine as i could make it, fighting against every single option

  • Eyes won't look "sparkly" "penetrating" like the person is evaluating your body or whatever the heck is going on on all these avatars

  • The default pose won't be this kind of subtly weird sort of sea-sick/sea-legs thing

This is subjective. It's about whether for me or many / most north american users, when using FB it's pretty clear that this whole style & person is just gone, and someone "normal" who isn't constantly pushing everyone into weird gender spaces and whatnot is gone and has been replaced.

tl;dr all fb's VR products have a UI style which is extremely specific to the nonbinary/SF type of person - intentional mixed gender symbolism in every UI, clothing choice, etc. etc and it's basically impossible to make yourself look clearly masculine.

Their forums are full of hundreds of threads of people complaining it's a bug, they didn't click "non-binary" they are a boy or girl and just want boy stuff, but it's intentional, the UI constantly exposes you to situations where you accidentally click something and then see a cross-sex version of yourself, over and over. It's honestly the product of a really sick mind at fb. Total disrespect of other people's views and rights to choose how we get represented, instead, insane aggression towards forcing us to be some way their graphic designers/art people/product people think we should be.

Hot take: the post-gender avatar customisation is good actually

P.s. I'm pretty sure the blue pink UI colours are because of the Meta/Facebook/Instagram logos, not the trans flag

@TheAllMemeingEye market for whether fortnite, Roblox, etc adopt it?

I'm for everyone being able to look how they want, me and they

Let's take a look at meta's VR website

girl in blue aggressively posing in a dominant pose over shameful, lumpy faced boy in red. interesting...

Dude looks like he's in the first order

The real kid has a normal jaw

Next, we have this "normal" looking asian girl. Finally!

Oh but she's... working out by... aggressively punching out balls which float in the air...
