Resolution criteria

This market resolves to YES if, at any point between the creation of this market and December 31, 2049, the U.S. federal government enacts legislation appropriating federal funds, or legally obligates federal funds, specifically designated for international global health programs (e.g., Global Health Programs, PEPFAR, global disease outbreak response, or multilateral contributions to entities such as the Global Fund or GAVI).

This market resolves to NO if the U.S. federal government does not enact any such appropriations or obligate funds for global health prior to January 1, 2050.

Resolution will be determined using official U.S. government sources, such as public laws published on Congress.gov or federal spending data tracked on USAspending.gov.

Background

The U.S. government is historically the largest bilateral donor to international public health initiatives. Major U.S. foreign assistance programs in global health include the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), bilateral health funding for maternal and child health, malaria, and tuberculosis, as well as multilateral contributions. Global health funding levels and distribution mechanisms are determined through federal annual appropriations enacted by Congress and executed by executive agencies.
