I WILL NOT BET UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
My international flight leaves at 2pm on Wed, Nov 26. Everywhere I’m going, I’ve never been before. Throughout my 7-hour Amsterdam layover, 30 hours in Oslo, a a weekend in London/Oxford, and an intensive in-person week of MARS (Mentorship for Alignment Research Students), I’ll be tired enough — the last thing I want to be thinking about is my Stanford schoolwork.
But I’ve been procrastinating SO MUCH. For example, in the middle of creating this market, I got bored and scrolled on Instagram.
Anyway, here’s what I have to finish:
Due Dec 3 (so late): Research project & paper for my grad-level Machine Learning for Human Preferences class. I have a partner on this, but I’ve been freeloading off him enough. We are approaching an MVP, so this one kinda depends on our standards. I really want this to be good, but also have been finding working on this extremely psychologically aversive. CLARIFICATION: Chatting with my partner about minor revisions, or giving feedback on things he has done, or other extremely small tasks that don't imply I personally procrastinated, don't count
Due Dec 1: Final coding assignment for above class. These are pretty easy for the grad students but historically take me, idk, 20 hours of focused work plus 20 hours of unfocused work. (I’m typically bottlenecked by energy; I can’t do more than 4-5 hours of focused work per day.)
Due idk: 3-minute animal-movement piece video for my Movement for the Actor class. I plan to do this in a few hours at home before I leave.
Due Dec 5 but optional for getting an A: Philosophy response that takes 30m-1h, just has to be words
[doesn’t count for market] Studying for my final exam for Spies, Lies, and Algorithms class. This exam is after I get back from Europe, and part of studying might be reading a book, or corresponding with friends in the class, so I’m fine with doing this in Europe.
Anything I’m forgetting
My schedule is pretty clear Friday-Tuesday, except that it’s Thanksgiving break and I’m going home and I‘m going to SF to record AI safety videos because I previously asserted I would do one every day of Thanksgiving break and that’s ridiculous but I think it’s important for me to edit at least one. And maybe publish but it’s also good to be “pre-revenue” so who knows…
Ask questions if you are confused. Or bet anyway
General policy for my markets: In the rare event of a conflict between my resolution criteria and the agreed-upon common-sense spirit of the market, I may resolve it according to the market's spirit or N/A, probably after discussion.
