It’s sort of an old-fashioned systems class, and they have us using emacs by default. I think emacs is fine, but would rather use a modern text editor like Sublime or VSCode.
The first challenge with VSCode is that we have to SSH into the Stanford myth machines, which I figured out how to setup (thanks to ChatGPT + Copilot) but sometimes doesn’t work for unclear reasons.
The second challenge is that (now that I gave VSCode permission to use Copilot once) I can’t figure out how to disable the goddamn AI code recommendations. (They’re actually high quality but I’m trying to learn here…) I changed like five settings and they still haven’t fully solved the problem. Please help me! I might go back to emacs if the issue persists.
Final homework (heap allocator, supposedly very hard) is in a couple weeks. To resolve YES, I must use VSCode more than emacs or any other text editor on it.
General policy for my markets: In the rare event of a conflict between my resolution criteria and the agreed-upon common-sense spirit of the market, I may resolve it according to the market's spirit or N/A, probably after discussion.
