Only 6 students do the program per year. I don’t know how many get in (presumably some turn it down) or how many apply, though none of my friends applied (that I know of).
I have a strong background in teaching, and enjoy biking, though I’ve never done anywhere near 75 miles a day. They claim that’s okay though.
I thought my interview was good, even though I had an headache during it. Our applications are read by former participants, who are only a few years older than me.
They did ask if I was committed to doing the program if I got in; I was upfront that I wasn’t sure because of the 10 week opportunity cost. They said they appreciated my honesty. However, by the end of the interview, they kinda convinced me that I should do it if I got in, and I told them that I was strongly leaning toward doing it.
The application cycle is really early because they want to lock down the team before doing all the training and bonding in the winter and spring.
Kind of a crapshoot, but chance me!
If I learn that I’m waitlisted and do not remain on the waitlist, or my application is otherwise withdrawn, I will immediately resolve PROB.
General policy for my markets: In the rare event of a conflict between my resolution criteria and the agreed-upon common-sense spirit of the market, I may resolve it according to the market's spirit or N/A, probably after discussion.
OFFICIALLY WAITLISTED. Staying on waitlist!
Hello!
Thank you for applying to Spokes, spending time on your interview, and genuinely letting us get to know you. We truly appreciate your effort and excitement.
This year’s applicant pool was both large and out-of-this-world qualified; your name has been placed on a short waitlist and we will reach out if a spot becomes available. I know this probably isn’t what you were hoping for, and I want to emphasize that this is not a poor reflection of your qualifications—the dynamics of each team are particular and our decisions often have much more to do with the mix of people that applied than any one person.
We're committed to getting back to you by the beginning of winter quarter, though we'll very likely have an update by finals week of fall. We also understand if, at this point, you’d simply like to move on—if that’s the case, just let us know and we’ll remove your name from the waitlist. But, if you can, we all encourage you to hang in there for a few weeks in case a spot does become available! If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thanks again for applying—we’ll be in touch soon!

@Conflux I got a longish text from my interviewer saying “I want to assure you that your application remains very much on our radar as we move forward”
copium time???
@Conflux (emotional hedging + noticing direction of market movement, not insider trading)
@Kire_ I just sent a thank-you text where I expressed excitement for the program! For whatever that's worth.
