Or should it be treated like a currency? A commodity? Other?

Does it have to? Serious question. I thought it could just stay open as a gauge of sentiment. If not I can put a specific resolution criterion, would be something more definitive than what we've seen so far from SEC or US courts.

@Ruthanne6b Interesting… I mean in that case I don’t think you’d have to, per se?

From what I’m following you’re trying to gauge whether Manifold users think it should/should not (less so will it be definitively covered as such, and I assume you’re being U.S. specific here). In that case wouldn’t a poll be better suited? Your call, idk

For the actual discussion here, I’m kinda divided because some crypto assets seem definitely securities-type, but there’s others that I’d say are definitely less clear. For what it’s worth pretty sure SEC chair Gensler has defended that existing frameworks/regulation are enough for crypto assets, iirc, though this has seen plenty criticism

Malta’s doing this interesting thing where they classify crypto assets under a whole other framework, “virtual financial assets”.

What do you think OP?

…how does this market resolve?
