On 2023-04-23, @EmilyFuhriman and I started a "BMI War", which will be measured and reset every 5 years.
As of market creation, I have a BMI of 27.8, given a height of 5'11 and a weight of 199.6 lbs. Emily has a BMI of 27.9, given a height of 5'4 and a weight of 163 lbs. If the ratio expressed as Carson's BMI : Emily's BMI lowers, I win the war and the market resolves positively. If the ratio increases, I lose the war and the market resolves negatively.
The loser of the bet finances either a "bros" or a "gals" weekend trip for 2 days (including travel, lodging, etc.) to the benefit of the winning party, with a maximum expense threshold of $3,000.
Market resolves as "n/a" if either of us die or become permanently incapacitated. If Emily is pregnant within a year of market close, the close date is extended to a year after Emily is no longer pregnant.
BMIs are calculated using the NIH online calculator. Depending on how health measures change over time, we may shift the scoring metric to something else for the "next" iteration of the BMI war.
Additional context as of market creation: I eat terribly and don't have any plans to change. Emily eats OK and would like to eat better. I exercise fairly regularly via walking, running, and occasional ping pong/racquetball/misc. sports. Emily walks frequently but does not otherwise exercise regularly. We are both at local maximums in terms of weight - she has ranged between 150-160 and I have ranged between 170-200. Her immediate and extended family is pretty active/healthy and mine is somewhat less so.
