Never understood this impulse.
You could have given the third-world 30% of GDP in 1900, and today they’d probably be worse off for it.
Fix broken institutions in the first world, disincentives to innovation, etc.
No reason to distract Elon from doing things that increase long-term civilizational well-being to give handouts that have no impact on long-term trajectories of these people/places (or often make them worse).
@Gigacasting Curious if you also think that money generally would do more good if invested vs donated to GiveWell charities? Or if its just the Musk touch that makes it effective, in which case would you find donating to Musk directly to be the ideal?
Just illustrating that both of these implications are counterintuitive (at least to me).
