On April 28, 2026, the UAE announced it will leave OPEC and OPEC+ effective May 1, 2026 — citing the Iran war fallout, attacks on Hormuz shipping, and disagreements with Saudi Arabia. This is the first major OPEC departure in decades. RESOLVES YES if, on or before 23:59 UTC July 31, 2026, ANY current or formerly OPEC-member country (other than UAE) publicly announces — through an official government or oil-ministry statement — the intent to leave OPEC. The announcement does not need to take effect by the deadline; intent is sufficient. Active members as of April 29, 2026: Algeria, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela. RESOLVES NO if no such announcement is made by the deadline. Rumors, anonymous sourcing, or unconfirmed media reports do not count — must be on-record from the country's government.
