this would be so unfair. one of them is a fleshy meat suit and the other is (presumably) metal

@mattyb both teams would need to be humanoid robots for the purpose of this question, LOL. Yeah, human vs robot would probably turn bloody..

@mattyb but i do wonder about humans vs robots in a less physical sport like european football (soccer)..
/Bayesian/will-a-televised-football-soccer-ma lol

@Bayesian i bet no there too.

  1. i dont think humanoid robots (with that range of functionality) will come that quickly. if it does, i expect them to be very expensive, and fairly flimsy. in either of those scenarios, you wouldn’t use them for sport, at least not without a huge upside (which maybe you’d get; the saudis do dumb shit with their money)

  2. assuming we get the robots, what’s to stop the machines from using their superhumanness? the robots would need to be so well calibrated to not blow out/get blown out by the humans.

  3. imagine kicking a robot shin. ouch. idk if top players would go for this.

yeah fair enough. I might do 2035 later on. I agree there's little upside for it, but also it's the kind of thing a company that makes a good general purpose robot might want to publicize, like the robot has the full range of motion of a human soccer player, plus it would go very viral

oh wait. this one is the 2035 one. my brain is smol
