Background: Tesla showed a second generation Roadster prototype in November 2017, with production then targeted for 2020. The date has moved many times since. At the November 2025 shareholder meeting, Elon Musk said production was targeted for 2027 or 2028 and announced a demo event for April 1, 2026 (joking that the April Fools' Day date gave him "deniability"). That event did not happen. The target then moved to May or early June 2026, then to August 2026. In mid August 2026, The Information reported, and outlets including Electrek, Quartz, Carscoops, Teslarati, Benzinga and Tesla Oracle relayed, that Tesla plans to unveil the production intent Roadster this month at SpaceX's McGregor, Texas rocket test site, with a cold gas thruster demonstration in which the car briefly lifts off the ground while being operated remotely with nobody inside. As of August 18, 2026, Tesla has not officially confirmed any unveil date, has not publicly issued event invitations, and has not said whether such an event would be livestreamed. Reuters reported Tesla did not respond to a request for comment. Resolution criteria: Resolves YES if, on or before August 31, 2026 at 11:59 pm US Central Time, Tesla publicly unveils the next generation Roadster. A qualifying unveiling means either (a) Tesla shows the actual next generation Roadster vehicle at a reveal or demonstration event that is livestreamed, press attended, or open to the public, or (b) Tesla, SpaceX, or Elon Musk publishes official photographs or video of the actual next generation Roadster vehicle being revealed. The following do NOT count: teaser images, silhouettes, renders, spec sheets, camouflaged or covered prototype sightings, third party spy shots, statements that a reveal is coming soon, or a private showing to employees, investors, or reservation holders that is not made public. Resolves NO otherwise, including if the unveiling occurs on or after September 1, 2026. Sources used to resolve: Tesla's official channels (tesla.com, Tesla's official X accounts, Tesla Investor Relations), SpaceX official channels, Elon Musk's official X account, or, absent an official source, agreement among at least two reputable independent news outlets (for example Reuters, Bloomberg, The Information, Electrek, Teslarati) that the unveiling occurred and on what date. If a qualifying event takes place on or before August 31, 2026 but public confirmation only appears afterward, the market still resolves YES. This market will be resolved by September 7, 2026, which allows one week for confirmation of any event held close to the deadline.
