Hammered at $21.8mm

Pretty rare anything would sell for that high, the few times it happened it was antiques or as tax evasion.

Abstract art, while overpriced, isn't the most expensive art.

@E7Wye6 Dude, that is the top end of the auction house estimate. Rob Pearlman sold one of his pieces in 2020 for $26mm and his record is $37mm. I don't think you have followed art in decades if you think your comment made any sense.

@BTE he dumped all that for pennies

@BTE in art the fact things are for sale makes them cheap, none of the good art is sold.

@E7Wye6 Fire sale. One of the first casualty of the end of zero interest rate era.

@BTE I completely agree with this. Collections like Paul Allen's are a great example of why that is the case. Only a collectors death should get them to part with a piece. Wilma af Klint (whom I believe is owned by nobody because she kept her work secret until 25 years after her death) or Kandinsky would be my first choice. The father and mother of theosophical abstraction. That was a magical time in Europe, and art generally, right before the carnage of war killed two generations of artists.

@BTE Possibly Piet Mondrian? I think Manifold would be a good tool for predicting auction success if enough people participated.

@BTE it's hard to say, industries have boom and bust cycles and the art industry just came out of one.

But definitely manifold would improve if it stopped randomly banning people in said markets.

@EjjeJuw Haha, Mark everyone knows it's you broseph. If you are near the Tate check this show out https://www.christies.com/features/the-parallel-worlds-of-hilma-af-klint-and-piet-mondrian-12729-1.aspx
