@RemNi Irrelevant. US isn’t part of ICC. But anyway, I think that Netanyahu is gonna be too busy with the war and then campaigning to address Congress.
@nathanwei I guess the US sees the ICC as a potential future threat to its power, so there's a lot of groupthink in the two American political parties which makes them lash out against the court irrespective of values. But this isn't the 90s anymore; US influence is a lot weaker now. All this does is push the US further into isolationism and undermines its soft power projection. But perhaps that's what many of these politicians want.
@SemioticRivalry An invitation is now confirmed to be imminent by Johnson and Schumer, or did I miss something?
@SemioticRivalry It doesn’t require anything more than the invitation to be extended. I have a separate market about whether or not it actually happens. I think he will address a joint session almost certainly and Senators will undoubtedly boycott. I created this market a long time ago basically predicting Netanyahu would try to influence the US election (again). Turns out it’s his own job top of the agenda….
@SemioticRivalry Invitation comes from the Speaker so I don’t really care who sits in the audience. Yes.
@BTE He gave a remote speech to Senate Republicans. That doesn’t seem like an address to Congress to me.
