Resolution criteria
This market resolves to YES if an official recount of the Minnesota Republican gubernatorial primary election (held on August 11, 2026) is formally initiated. This includes any statewide or partial hand or machine recount administered by the Minnesota Secretary of State or ordered by a court.
The market resolves to NO if the deadline to request and fund a discretionary recount passes without a recount being officially approved, or if any requested recount is legally blocked, rejected, or canceled before physical counting of the ballots begins.
The primary source of truth for this market will be official announcements from the Minnesota Secretary of State or reports from reputable news organizations (such as MPR News or the Associated Press).
Background
In the August 11, 2026, Republican primary for Minnesota Governor, State House Speaker Lisa Demuth defeated businessman and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell by roughly 11 percentage points. Because the margin of victory was far wider than the 0.25% threshold required to trigger an automatic, state-funded recount, Lindell must privately fund any challenge.
On August 19, 2026, Lindell announced his intention to personally pay for a statewide hand recount and ballot audit. According to the Minnesota Secretary of State's office, Lindell's campaign has until 5:00 PM on Monday, August 24, 2026, to submit a formal request and post a cash payment or surety bond covering the estimated $825,000 cost of the recount.
