@mods looks like what we (well, I, at least) got back in 2023 was just a small advance and the bulk of the payment arrived yesterday... Is it kosher to re-resolve a question this long after its first resolution?

@ArmandodiMatteo What are you thinking? If people were paid back in 2023, 2024, 2025, and possibly even 2026, how would you distribute the resolution among those various years?

In this case since you made the original market and you were content to resolve it 2023 when you got paid back some amount in 2023, I think all signs point to leaving the resolution alone.

If you're interested in the subject more, I suggest making a new market with your new question -- including some more criteria about what counts.

@Eliza resolving to PROB, assuming that all creditors were paid back on the same schedule as me and that we aren't due any more money, would mean 2.5% 2023 and 97.5% 2025. The reason I did resolve the question back then was that I assumed I was already given back all the money I would ever be (the mail subject said “MTGOX – Notice of Completion of Repayment”, emphasis added).

(Yes, I wasn't sure how much money I was owed even to within two orders of magnitude. That's how oblivious I am. I barely even remembered I had a Mt. Gox account with some fraction of a bitcoin on it right before they went bankrupt...)

@ArmandodiMatteo According to a web search, a significant amount was also paid back in 2024 and payments are ongoing in 2025, with no guarantee that they will be done before the end of the year. Do you want to reopen the question and wait to see how it all turns out? I can unresolve it.

@Eliza I can think of two options: 1) we interpret the question as "When will Mt. Gox creditors be first paid back" and keep it resolved to 2023, as some people were returned some money in 2023 but AFAIK nobody was returned any money in 2022 or earlier; 2) we re-open it, close it when it's become clear that nobody is ever going to get any more money back from Mt. Gox ever again, then resolve it to PROB based on how much money in total was returned in each year. My personal preference would be 1), mostly because less work for me. @traders would any of you object to 1) and insist on 2)?

Here's the last mail we received, FWIW:

To Rehabilitation Creditors,

1. Commencement of Repayment and Timing of Receipt of Repayment

This e-mail provides the information required to receive repayment and is sent to rehabilitation creditors for whom the selected repayment method has been determined to be effective at this time and for whom all registered repayment destination information has been approved.

The Rehabilitation Trustee plans to commence repayment to creditors shortly. The Rehabilitation Trustee is making efforts to commence repayments in cash within the 2023 calendar year. However, due to the large number of rehabilitation creditors who will receive repayment, the varying types of repayments, the different preparation and processing times required to make the repayment, repayments will continue into 2024. For these and other reasons, the specific timing of repayment to individual rehabilitation creditors is undetermined, and therefore, it will not be possible to provide advance notice to each rehabilitation creditor regarding the specific timing of their repayment.

Currently, you/your company are/is not required to take any action in relation to the receipt of repayment. Therefore, please await commencement of the repayment. Please note, however, that, in the future, the Rehabilitation Trustee or each business operator involved in the repayment may request you/your company to provide additional information or to update information that has already been provided.

2. How to confirm whether there are any actions required on your part for the receipt of repayment

You can confirm whether you/your company are/is in a status where repayment can be received by going to the MTGOX Online Rehabilitation Claim Filing System (which can be accessed via the following URL:https://claims.mtgox.com/; hereinafter referred to as the “System”) and clicking on “Selection of Repayment Method and Registration of Payee Information” button on the home screen and viewing the selection of repayment method and registration of payee information screen.

If both of the subordinate field of the “Selection regarding proportional repayment” and “BTC Claims/BCH Claims” of the “Status of Consent to Terms of Consent and Selection of Repayment Method” indicate “The Selection Status above has been determined as valid.” and all fields in “State of Payee Information” are marked as “Registration Completed”, then there are no procedures that you/your company have/has to undertake at this time. Please note that “Selection regarding proportional repayment” and “BTC Claims/BCH Claims” are displayed only if you/your company are/is subject to selection.

In addition to the display on the System, if a matter requiring your/your company’s response occurs, the Rehabilitation Trustee will notify you by sending an e-mail to your/your company’s contact email address. Please also check the e-mail from the Rehabilitation Trustee.

3. Request for response to inquires from Rehabilitation Trustee

Going forward, there may be cases where the Rehabilitation Trustee will receive an inquiry from a bank, Fund Transfer Service Provider, or Designated Cryptocurrency Exchange, etc. regarding information relating to a rehabilitation creditor, and in order to reply to such inquiry, the Rehabilitation Trustee may ask rehabilitation creditors to provide additional information or make other response.

If a matter arises requiring a rehabilitation creditor to provide additional information or make other response, the Rehabilitation Trustee will send notice of such matter by email to the rehabilitation creditor’s contact email address and ask that the necessary response be carried out. Please check your contact email receive settings to ensure that you can receive e-mails from the Rehabilitation Trustee, and because there may be cases where the deadline for responding to an inquiry will be extremely short, please check your inbox frequently, and if you receive an e-mail, please respond promptly in the manner indicated in the e-mail.

However, please note that there will be a certain deadline for responding to inquiries, and it is possible that period for response will be extremely short, and that accordingly, it is expected that there will be cases where it will not be possible to contact the relevant rehabilitation creditor. Further, even in cases where a rehabilitation creditor has provided additional information or otherwise responded to the Rehabilitation Trustee, the rehabilitation creditor may not be able to reply by the relevant deadline.

In addition, in cases where a rehabilitation creditor has not provided additional information or otherwise responded within the designated period or where the deadline for responding to an inquiry is extremely short and it would not be feasible for the Rehabilitation Trustee to have the rehabilitation creditor provide additional information or otherwise respond, it is possible that funds will be returned to the Rehabilitation Trustee’s bank account or BTC/BCH will be returned to the Rehabilitation Trustee at the expense of the relevant rehabilitation creditor.

4. How to confirm your own repayment status

You/your company can confirm your/your company’s current repayment status and the planned remittance amounts and completed remittance amounts for each type of claim at “Repayment Status” displayed on the home screen of the System. The information shown in “Repayment Status” will not necessarily be communicated individually to rehabilitation creditors by e-mail or other means, and so rehabilitation creditors are asked to confirm their own repayment status for themselves on the System.

By clicking on each line shown in “Repayment Status”, you will be able to confirm “Repayment Status Details”.

※The function for displaying the “Repayment Status” and “Repayment Status Details” is currently under development and is expected to be available by the end of 2023.

5. Disclosure of Repayment FAQs and inquiries about repayment

The Rehabilitation Trustee has disclosed Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Repayment (Repayment FAQs) in “3. Information and Guides for Repayment” on the “Webpage for Viewing Documents.” If you have any questions regarding the repayment, please first check the Repayment FAQs. Please note that the content of the Repayment FAQs will be updated as appropriate.

For frequently asked questions regarding matters other than repayment and their answers, please visit the site that can be accessed by clicking on the “FAQ” button at the upper right of the System home screen. If you have questions regarding a matter not discussed in the Repayment FAQs or on the above website, please use the “Inquiry Form” that can be accessed by logging into the System and clicking on the “FAQ” button at the upper right of the screen.

https://claims.mtgox.com/faq

The inquiry also can be made using the inquiry form accessible from the URL above without logging into the System. However, if the inquiry is made in such manner, the identity of the inquirer and the creditor may not be verified, which may make it difficult to respond to inquiries smoothly. Accordingly, please make the inquiry after logging in to the System, if possible.

Please note that, due to a large number of inquiries, we may not be able to respond in a timely manner. We appreciate your understanding.

This e-mail was sent from a send-only email address, and the Rehabilitation Trustee cannot read or respond to any e-mail you may send.
