This is practically confirmed, he's from the figarland family. Figarland Garling is the celestial dragon that leads the holy knights.

@JaredAsh bet this up to 90%. I will resolve when I saw undeniable evidence

@AmmonLam I don't have funds sorry, currently sitting at 1 mana. But there's already confirmation from Oda that Shanks is from the Figarland Family of the celestial dragons, I'd say that's pretty definitive.

@JaredAsh doing some searching online right now...

@AmmonLam I mean, you can leave this open. I know it costs 100 mana to create each question, I'm sure you'll get engagement on this question, so you can leave it open till you make back the money you put in to make the question from new traders.

@JaredAsh I would NA this if it has already been confirmed that Shanks if from the Figarland Family.

I tried to find the confirmation from Oda that you mentioned online but I couldnt find it

@AmmonLam

It's been confirmed in Film Red, a film whose direction was supervised by Oda but not in the manga itself. You can leave it open.

@JaredAsh Film Red is not canon. Most of the films aren’t, unless events/characters are mentioned in the manga. I.E., Shiki the Golden Lion. Was just a cool non-canon character until his mention on Rocks D. Xebec’s crew during the flashback on Egghead. Stating “it is canon” because Oda directed a One Piece movie is just incorrect. Now, if he said in an SBS that Shanks was a Figarland, then yeah, that’s canon and confirmed.

Uta’s non-canon, yet they have a whole deck based around her movie in the TCG, there with Luffy, Kaido, Yamato, etc…

Basically: doesn’t mean shit. Would love to be wrong about this, of course, but just had to chime in that nothing from the movies should be viewed as canon.

@dwax True, while it is not cannon yet there is no reason for a non-cannon film to mislead with a major lore drop like this for a significant character in the series.

  • Sengoku stops the marineford war and says he'll allow it only because it's Shanks

  • Gorosei allow Shanks to just waltz in to Marejois to talk to him

  • Non-canon film reveals his last name and then canon manga shows a celestial dragon named Figarland Garling

No reason for Oda to mislead like that, but feel free to invest in No.
