When one of the following happens next, where will it happen?
• Two countries merge
• One country splits into 2 or more countries.
• A country changes its name.
Complete invasion of a country by a neighbour doesn't count as merging.
The 6 regions to choose from don't geographically overlap.
Regions where the border location is contested are fine, split the difference and that's where the border is.
The USA is a single country.
Central America is not North or South America.
Doesn't resolve, places where today (July 2026):
Countries merging over a continent edge.
Regions that are trying to break away from their historic parent country, and it's currently contested as to whether that has worked.
Places where different trusted mainstream map sources disagree greatly on what countries are called, how many countries there are, etc… to a degree that's totally resolution busting.
Historical examples that would resolve to "yes":
Split – "Bosnia and Herzegovina" was one of the six republics of Yugoslavia. It declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1992 following a referendum.

Merge – East Germany and West Germany reunited in 1990, creating the modern Germany. On an extremely "well technically" level, one ate the other followed by an immediate name change, but this wasn't invasion or cessation, it was very much actually a merge.
Merge – Tanganyika and "People’s Republic of Zanzibar" united in 1964, the combined region is now called Tanzania.
Name Change – Swaziland changed its name to Eswatini in 2018.
